YWCA St. Paul wants to hear from YOU! We’re hosting a series of Equity & Justice Community Conversations, each focused on a specific topic reflecting the serious consequences of racism. The next virtual conversation will focus on the impact of racism on health and well-being.
Growing diversity in our communities and workplaces has brought new talents, ideas and opportunities, but has also underscored inequities that need to be addressed so that individuals and organizations can flourish in environments that are healthy for everyone. Countless statistics illustrate the many systems and structures around us that have led to enormous racial health disparities. While the majority of U.S. spending on health focuses on medical interventions, social factors, including conditions in the environments where people live, work and play, have an even greater impact on our overall health than once believed. Your actions (or lack of actions) are likely to impact the health and well-being of those around you.
Our next conversation will feature Anika Ward, Founder of Sankofa Leadership Network, discussing the everyday connections between diversity, equity and inclusion and wellness, and the ways we (as community/family members, colleagues, and leaders) might shift our ways of engaging to ensure that our impact—on ourselves and others—contributes to more equitable and healthy spaces.
