On January 20, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a champion for justice, equity, and civil rights. Let’s recommit to building communities where all people are empowered to thrive.
King, an activist and Baptist minister, was a prominent leader of the American civil rights movement from the 1950s until his assassination at age 39 in 1968. Through nonviolent means of resistance and civil disobedience, he led the charge for civil rights issues such as the right to vote, desegregation, labor rights, and the removal of Jim Crow laws.
